In Short
After bureaucracy snafus and construction delays, rocker Andrew W. K. and partners Spencer Sweeney and Pianos' owner Larry Golden have unveiled their downtown dance hall. Designed for serious rump shaking, the ex-art gallery has been transformed into a bi-level, 8,000-square-foot space, with Crayola-hued cinder block walls and disco balls aplenty, and stupendous, bass-pumping speakers that rival any sound system in town. In case you get lost amid the crowd of sweaty hipsters and scenesters, helpful signs like "You are in the bathroom!" point you in the right direction.Hits: In a New York club scene overrun with exclusive bottle-service boites where no one dare boogie, Santos' serves as a dancing nirvana with sweet DJs spinning on a thumptastic sound system. Misses: You better like dancing, because seats are scarce as snowflakes in summer. And after all that construction, it'd be nice to have more creative decor than disco balls.
