Description:

Lillie’s That a bar would take a page from the 19th century is nothing new (see, oh, every cocktail lounge below 23rd Street). But this spot goes a step further, naming 1800s society beauty Lillie Langtry its patron saint. Despite appearances, Lillie’s—all dark, carved wood and marble (54 feet of it makes up the bar top)—is more pub than old-timey cocktail lounge. There are 20 taps (Smithwick’s, Boddingtons), 30 bottles (Paulaner, Chimay) and even wines (a handful come from a California vineyard allegedly owned by Langtry herself). As for grub, the bulk of it is unfit for ladylike consumption: bangers and mash, potpie and fish-and-chips. While the brutes feed, damsels can engage in more demure activities, like inquiring about the history of the space—it once housed a perfumery. 13 E 17th St between Fifth Ave and Broadway - TimeOut
