In Short

When the country's reigning Mexican food guru opens a casual, counter-service restaurant, you know you're in for more than tacos and burritos. The focus at this Bayless eatery is convenient Mexican street foods, including tortas (Mexican sandwiches) cooked in a wood-burning oven, hearty caldos (soups) brimming with ingredients like slow-cooked carnitas, chayote and avocado. For those with a sweet tooth, cinnamon sugar-dusted churros beckon to be dunked into rich hot chocolates made from single-origin Mexican cacao beans roasted and ground in-house. The vibe is akin to a sandwich shop, with chalkboard menus, a long, open kitchen and a mix of counter and table seating.
